Akola Police Crack Jewellery Shop Robbery in 72 Hours
The Akola police have successfully solved a sensational daylight armed robbery at a jewellery shop within 72 hours. The accused has been arrested, and stolen valuables worth ₹25.91 lakh along with the weapon used in the crime have been recovered.
Incident Details
The incident occurred on the afternoon of May 7 at Shri Saptashrungi Alankar Kendra. An unidentified individual entered the shop and, threatening employees with a gun, looted gold and silver ornaments along with cash. The total value of stolen items was ₹69.90 lakh.
Investigation and Arrest
A case was registered at the Khadan police station. A special investigation team was formed under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Archit Chandak. The team, led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sudarshan Patil and Local Crime Branch Inspector Shankar Shelke, comprised seven officers and more than 50 personnel.
Through technical analysis and intelligence inputs, the accused was identified as Rohansingh Satnamsingh Bawra, a resident of Bhusawal in Jalgaon district. Police teams tracked the accused and arrested him in Bhusawal.
Confession and Recovery
During interrogation, Bawra confessed to having stayed in a rented room in Akola and conducting reconnaissance of the area under the pretext of selling bedsheets before executing the robbery. The police recovered approximately 160 grams of gold ornaments valued at ₹24 lakh, 440 grams of silver ornaments valued at ₹1.23 lakh, and a locally made firearm used in the crime. Efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining stolen property.
