In a shocking incident of corruption, a police outpost in-charge in Aligarh has been suspended and booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the family of a 14-year-old molestation victim. The bribe was demanded in exchange for registering a First Information Report (FIR) in the case, police confirmed on Saturday.
Inquiry Reveals Prima Facie Evidence
Senior police officials initiated an inquiry into the matter after receiving a complaint from the victim's father. The probe found the allegations against Rohit Kumar Tomar, the outpost in-charge, to be prima facie true. Consequently, a departmental investigation has been launched against him.
Details of the Complaint
According to police, the victim's father filed a complaint stating that his daughter was molested by two men on May 17. The family approached the police seeking legal action, but no FIR was registered at the time. The father alleged that Tomar repeatedly called him to the police station and threatened to implicate the family in a false case unless they paid Rs 30,000.
The family, under duress, arranged the money and handed it over to the officer. However, despite accepting the bribe, Tomar allegedly failed to take any action in the molestation case.
Evidence Captured on Video
Police revealed that the alleged exchange of money was captured on a mobile phone video. The footage later surfaced online and was examined during the inquiry. Following the probe, Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar Jadaun ordered Tomar's suspension on Friday.
SHO Upender Kumar stated, "A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against Tomar. Further investigation is underway, and appropriate action will be taken."
Ongoing Investigation
The police are continuing their investigation into the matter. They have assured that strict action will be taken against any officer found guilty of misconduct. The victim's family has expressed relief that the complaint was taken seriously and hope that justice will be served.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by victims of crime when seeking justice and underscores the importance of accountability within the police force.
