Aligarh Court Delivers Life Sentences in Brutal Neighbor Murder Case
In a landmark ruling, a court in Aligarh has sentenced three men to life imprisonment for the murder of a private finance company employee, with the victim's six-year-old daughter's testimony proving instrumental in securing the conviction. The case, which shocked the local community, highlights the critical role of witness accounts in delivering justice.
The Tragic Night of January 20, 2021
On the fateful night of January 20, 2021, Vikas Saxena, a 24-year-old employee of a private finance company, was at home with his young daughter. His wife, a government school teacher, was out of town at the time. According to court documents, several of their neighbors scaled the outer wall of the residence, entered the house, and proceeded to strangle Saxena using a pipe and plastic rope. This horrific act was committed in full view of the terrified child.
Initial Investigation Challenges and Breakthrough
The case initially presented significant challenges for investigators due to the absence of any signs of forced entry, which suggested the perpetrators were known to the victim. However, a crucial breakthrough came when the six-year-old daughter identified one of the accused. She recounted that this individual had spoken threateningly to her father just before the violent attack commenced.
Prashant Saxena, the victim's brother, filed the official police complaint. He detailed that the assailants not only murdered his brother but also stole gold jewellery and approximately Rs 2 lakh in cash from the household. Prashant further stated that he was informed about the crime via a phone call from another neighbor, who alerted him to the tragic events.
Arrests, Identification, and Legal Proceedings
Acting on suspicions regarding the involvement of neighbors, police arrested three individuals just two days after the murder. The accused were identified as Vivek Sharma (25), Mohit Sharma (26), and Yogendra Pandit (25). Upon their arrest, Saxena's daughter immediately and confidently identified Vivek Sharma as one of the attackers.
An FIR was promptly registered under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 392 (robbery). All three accused were subsequently sent to jail, and the stolen items, including the gold jewellery and cash, were successfully recovered by the authorities.
Court Verdict and Sentencing Details
Additional District Judge PK Jayant presided over the case and found all three neighbors guilty of both murder and robbery. Additional District Government Counsel Pramendra Jain provided details following the verdict, noting that Mohit Sharma had remained in jail since his arrest, while the other two accused had been granted bail approximately two months prior to the sentencing.
After meticulously examining all evidence, with particular emphasis on the compelling and credible testimony of the victim's young daughter, the court delivered its judgment. All three convicts were sentenced to life imprisonment. Additionally, they were collectively fined a total of Rs 10.8 lakh, underscoring the severity of their crimes.
This case serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience of young witnesses and the relentless pursuit of justice within the Indian judicial system, even in the face of initially perplexing circumstances.
