Mysterious Fire in Aligarh Leaves One Dead, Woman Critically Injured
A tragic incident unfolded in the Turkman Gate area of Aligarh city on Monday evening, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old man and severe burn injuries to a 40-year-old married woman. The mysterious fire occurred on the roof of the woman's house, sparking a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event.
Details of the Incident
The deceased, identified as Farman Ahmed, worked at a hardware-manufacturing unit owned by the husband of the injured woman, Nazreen. Neighbors discovered the two in critical condition and immediately alerted the police. Both were rushed to a local hospital, where doctors declared Farman dead upon arrival. Nazreen sustained serious burn injuries and was subsequently referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi for advanced treatment, with her condition reported as critical.
Police Investigation and Statements
Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the case might be linked to a personal relationship, although officials have not ruled out other possibilities, including suicide, accidental fire, or foul play. Senior Superintendent of Police Mayank Pathak stated, "Around 7 pm, Kotwali Nagar Police received information from Turkman Gate outpost regarding burn injuries sustained by two individuals, identified as Farman and Nazreen. Police reached the spot and shifted the injured to hospital, where a medical examination declared Farman dead, while Nazreen was referred to a hospital in Delhi for advanced treatment. Prima facie, there is no information indicating the presence of any third person in the house at the time of the incident."
SHO Manoj Kumar of Nagar Kotwali added, "Families of both the victims have levelled allegations against each other. A case will be registered after the preliminary investigation is complete."
Conflicting Allegations from Families
The families of the victims have presented conflicting accounts of the incident. Farman's mother, Sayna Begum, alleged, "Nazreen adored my son and hence she invited him for ‘iftar' on Monday evening. Her husband, Waseem, did not like Farman, and he had threatened to kill him several times earlier." In contrast, Waseem, the husband of Nazreen, claimed that Farman attempted to burn his wife to death before immolating himself.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to piece together the events leading to this devastating fire, with further updates expected as more details emerge.
