Aligarh Student's Tragic Suicide Follows Alleged Harassment by Teacher and Family
A 14-year-old class 8 student from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, has allegedly died by suicide after enduring prolonged harassment from her 55-year-old school teacher and his family members, according to police reports on Saturday. The distressing incident has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about institutional accountability and law enforcement response.
Chronology of Events Leading to the Tragedy
The case originated in December when the teacher, who also owns the coaching institute, allegedly behaved inappropriately with the young girl during a session at the premises. Following this incident, the victim courageously informed her family about the misconduct.
In February, the family filed a formal complaint, leading to a case being registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS):
- Section 74: Assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty
- Section 115(2): Voluntarily causing hurt
- Section 351(3): Criminal intimidation
Alleged Police Inaction and Escalating Threats
The family has alleged that despite registering the case, no concrete action or arrests were made by the authorities. Meanwhile, the situation escalated dangerously as the teacher and his son reportedly threatened the young girl for several weeks, pressuring her to withdraw the legal complaint against them.
The victim's father has accused the police of negligence, asserting that timely intervention could have prevented the ultimate tragedy. "She was living in constant fear," he stated, highlighting the systemic failures that contributed to the devastating outcome.
The Final Tragedy and Expanded Legal Action
On Thursday, overwhelmed by the alleged intimidation and harassment, the 14-year-old was found hanging at her aunt's residence in Bulandshahr. Police were immediately informed, and her body was transported to Aligarh for postmortem examination.
Following her tragic death, authorities have registered a fresh case against the teacher, his son, and daughter-in-law under additional BNS sections:
- Section 108: Abetment to suicide
- Section 351(3): Criminal intimidation
The family has made further disturbing allegations, claiming that the teacher's daughter-in-law visited their home and threatened to kill them if they didn't withdraw the case. According to the victim's father, his daughter was so terrified of this individual that she would faint upon seeing her and had been under medical observation for mental distress prior to her death.
Current Investigation Status and Police Response
Station House Officer Ravi Chandrawal provided an update on the investigation, stating, "The teacher's son has been sent to jail, and an investigation is underway to trace his father and wife who are currently absconding. Appropriate action will be taken as the investigation progresses."
The case has highlighted critical issues regarding student safety, institutional responsibility, and law enforcement responsiveness in educational settings. As the investigation continues, the community awaits justice for the young victim and systemic reforms to prevent similar tragedies.
