The Allahabad High Court on Thursday sought the response of the Uttar Pradesh government on a petition challenging an order by the Inspector General of the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) that directed an inquiry into the operation of madrasas in the state, following allegations of foreign funding.
Petition Filed by Madrasa Teachers' Association
The petition, filed by the association of teachers of madrasas in Uttar Pradesh, challenges the probe order on the grounds that there is no evidence to support claims of foreign funding for these institutions.
ATS Order and State's Response
On December 9 last year, the IG of ATS issued a directive for the ATS to conduct an inquiry into the functioning of madrasas across Uttar Pradesh. Representing the state, the government's counsel argued that the writ petition is premature, as the order merely called for an inquiry and did not constitute any final action.
The bench, comprising Justice Arindam Sinha and Justice Satya Veer Singh, scheduled the next hearing for May 4.
