AMC Garden Inspector Allegedly Assaulted During Routine Inspection at Law Garden
A garden inspector employed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) was reportedly assaulted by an individual during a standard inspection at Law Garden on Wednesday morning. Following the altercation, a formal complaint was lodged at the Navrangpura police station, initiating a police investigation into the matter.
Details of the Incident and Official Inspection
According to the police complaint, Bharat Rathod, a 40-year-old garden inspector assigned to the Navrangpura ward, commenced his official duties early in the day. He first visited the residence of the deputy municipal commissioner near Law Garden around 6:45 AM as part of his scheduled rounds. Upon learning that the officer might inspect Law Garden, Rathod proceeded to the location at approximately 7:15 AM, accompanied by contractor garden supervisor Harsh Patel.
Confrontation and Assault During Cleanliness Check
While conducting the inspection near a compost pit, Rathod observed garbage that had been left behind after nighttime cleaning operations. He promptly instructed a worker to remove the waste. At this juncture, a man identified as Amiraj Patel approached the officials and began questioning the cleanliness standards of the garden. Police reports indicate that the accused became aggressive and initiated an argument with Inspector Rathod.
Despite being informed that cleaning was actively in progress, the man allegedly lost his temper and physically assaulted Rathod. A police officer stated, "The accused slapped and punched Rathod during the argument." When Harsh Patel attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation, the accused allegedly pushed him to the ground, resulting in a head injury as he struck nearby objects.
Escalation and Aftermath of the Altercation
The confrontation intensified when Rathod tried to retrieve his mobile phone, which had fallen during the scuffle, and was punched again by the assailant. Other individuals present in the garden eventually intervened, halting the assault. The accused fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Both Bharat Rathod and Harsh Patel were transported to VS Hospital for medical attention, where they received outpatient treatment for their injuries. The police have registered a case against the accused for assault and causing hurt, with ongoing efforts to locate and arrest him.
