The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) carried out surprise inspections at multiple hotels across the city on Friday, prompted by a recent deadly hotel fire in Delhi. The checks aimed to assess compliance with fire safety regulations. A total of 37 hotels were found to have deficient arrangements and violations, leading to the issuance of official notices.
Zone-Wise Breakdown of Notices
The South Zone recorded the highest number of violations, with 12 hotels receiving notices. In the Central Zone, nine hotels were flagged, while the West Zone saw six hotels issued notices. The North-West Zone had five hotels, and the South-West Zone had four hotels that failed to meet safety standards. One hotel in the North Zone faced action, and notably, no violations were detected in the East Zone during the inspections.
Officials’ Statement
AMC officials emphasized that these surprise checks are part of a broader effort to enhance fire safety in hospitality establishments. They warned that strict action would be taken against hotels that continue to neglect safety norms, including potential closure if violations persist.
Broader Implications
The initiative comes after a tragic fire at a hotel in Delhi, which raised concerns about fire safety protocols across the country. The AMC’s proactive measures aim to prevent similar incidents in Ahmedabad, ensuring the safety of guests and staff. Hotel owners have been urged to rectify the identified deficiencies immediately.
