Amravati Murder Case Cracked: Live-In Partner Arrested in Ahmedabad After Four-Month Manhunt
In a significant breakthrough, the Frezarpura police have successfully apprehended Subhash Ajab Wankhade, a 45-year-old man, from Ahmedabad in connection with the brutal murder of his live-in partner, Kavita, also aged 45. The arrest marks the culmination of an intensive four-month investigation into this tragic domestic violence case that has shocked the Amravati community.
Background of the Victim and the Relationship
Kavita, a resident of Rahul Nagar in Amravati, was a married woman with three children. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Ganesh Shinde, her disappearance first raised alarms on June 27, 2025, when she left her home in Dhamangaon Railway Tehsil without informing anyone. Her concerned family promptly filed a missing person complaint at the Talegaon Dashasar police station.
Interestingly, Kavita later resurfaced at the police station accompanied by Subhash Wankhade. Subsequently, the couple decided to move in together, renting a room in Rahul Nagar, where they began cohabiting. This arrangement set the stage for the tragic events that would unfold months later.
The Discovery of the Crime and Initial Investigation
The grim discovery was made on September 29, 2025, when Kavita's lifeless body was found in the rented room they shared. At that time, Wankhade was conspicuously absent and remained untraceable, immediately raising suspicions about his involvement. Police swiftly registered a murder case and launched a comprehensive manhunt to locate the prime suspect.
For nearly four months, investigators pursued various leads while Wankhade managed to evade capture. The breakthrough came just three days ago when police received crucial intelligence indicating that Wankhade had fled to Ahmedabad and was living there under an assumed identity, attempting to start a new life far from the scene of the crime.
The Arrest Operation and Investigation Findings
Acting swiftly on this tip-off, Police Inspector Roshan Shirsat from Frezarpura police station coordinated a specialized operation. He dispatched a team led by Police Sub Inspector Rahul Mahajan to Ahmedabad with explicit instructions to apprehend the fugitive.
The police team executed their mission with precision, successfully tracking down and arresting Wankhade in Ahmedabad. He was subsequently brought back to Amravati on Thursday to face justice. During interrogation, Wankhade reportedly confessed to the crime, revealing that a heated domestic quarrel between the couple had escalated dramatically, ultimately resulting in him murdering Kavita in a fit of rage.
This arrest underscores the persistent efforts of law enforcement in solving violent crimes, even when suspects attempt to disappear by changing locations and identities. The case also highlights the tragic consequences that can arise from domestic disputes when they spiral out of control.
