In a significant move to enhance road safety, the Amritsar Police Commissionerate has launched a rigorous special drive targeting unsafe motorised rehris operating throughout the city. The initiative, which began recently, aims to address growing concerns about traffic hazards caused by these modified vehicles.

The special drive saw Commissioner of Police Dr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar taking personal charge of the operations. Under his direct supervision, police teams conducted thorough checks of motorised rehris across various locations in Amritsar. During the initial phase of the drive, authorities examined 25 motorised rehris and found multiple safety violations that posed serious risks to both drivers and the general public.
The enforcement action resulted in eight challans being issued to owners and operators of these unsafe vehicles. The violations primarily concerned unauthorized modifications and non-compliance with basic safety standards that make these rehris dangerous on busy city roads.
Identifying Major Safety Concerns
Police officials identified several critical safety issues during their inspections. Many motorised rehris had been haphazardly fitted with diesel engines, creating potential fire hazards and emission problems. Additionally, numerous vehicles showed poor structural integrity and inadequate braking systems, significantly increasing the risk of accidents.
Commissioner Bhullar emphasized that these modified vehicles not only endanger their operators but also pose serious threats to pedestrians and other road users.
