Major Drug Bust in Amritsar: Police Dismantle Cross-Border Smuggling Networks

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police announced on Tuesday the successful busting of two interlinked cross-border drug smuggling cartels. The operation resulted in the arrest of five individuals and the seizure of a substantial 7.050 kilograms of heroin, marking a critical blow to illegal drug operations in the region.

Details of the Arrests and Seizures

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar revealed that the operation was initiated based on reliable intelligence inputs. The first breakthrough came with the arrest of Deepak Singh, alias Deepu, a 22-year-old resident of Harkrishan Nagar in Chheharta, Amritsar. From his possession, authorities recovered an initial 1.3 kilograms of heroin.

During subsequent interrogation, Deepak Singh provided crucial information that led to the recovery of an additional 2.6 kilograms of heroin, significantly escalating the scale of the bust. This discovery prompted a deeper investigation into the network's connections.

Unraveling the Cross-Border Links

The investigation uncovered links to a common handler based in Pakistan, which guided police teams to further arrests. Rajinder Singh, alias Ghuddu (age 23), Randeep Singh, alias Dil (age 19), and Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi (age 21), all residents of village Sensra Kalan in Amritsar, were apprehended. From their possession, police recovered 1.01 kilograms of heroin.

Based on disclosures made by these individuals, another associate, Prince Singh, alias Prince, a resident of village Kohala in Amritsar, was also arrested. From Prince Singh, authorities seized an additional 2 kilograms of heroin, bringing the total confiscated amount to 7.050 kilograms.

Additional Seizures and Police Statement

In addition to the heroin, police teams impounded a motorcycle that was used in the drug trafficking operations, further disrupting the logistical capabilities of the cartels. Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar emphasized the importance of this operation in combating the flow of narcotics across borders.

"This coordinated effort has effectively dismantled two interconnected smuggling networks that posed a serious threat to public safety and security," stated Bhullar. "We remain committed to pursuing all leads and ensuring that those involved in such illicit activities are brought to justice."

The arrests highlight the ongoing challenges and efforts in curbing cross-border drug smuggling, with authorities continuing to monitor and act against such criminal enterprises to protect communities from the dangers of narcotics.
