Amritsar Police Dismantles Cross-Border Smuggling Networks in Major Operation

In a significant crackdown on organized crime, the Amritsar commissionerate police announced on Saturday that they have successfully busted two sophisticated cross-border smuggling modules. This operation led to the arrest of 10 accused individuals and the recovery of a substantial cache of narcotics and illegal firearms, marking a critical blow to transnational smuggling activities in the region.

Details of the Seizure and Arrests

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar detailed the findings, revealing that authorities seized 5.4 kilograms of high-purity heroin, a drug with significant street value and societal impact. Additionally, the police confiscated three sophisticated pistols: a Glock 9mm, a Zigana 9mm, and a .32 bore weapon, along with 34 live cartridges. A sum of Rs 4,500, identified as proceeds from drug trafficking, was also recovered during the operation.

Commissioner Bhullar emphasized that preliminary investigations have uncovered direct connections between the arrested individuals and Pakistan-based smugglers. These links were maintained through various social media platforms, facilitating the coordination of illegal activities across borders.

Smuggling Network and Distribution Channels

The investigation revealed that the consignments of heroin and illegal arms were systematically pushed into Indian territory from across the border. Once inside, the contraband was distributed through a well-structured network that spanned multiple districts across Punjab. This organized setup allowed for efficient dissemination of drugs and weapons, posing a serious threat to law and order in the state.

Multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered under relevant legal provisions, including the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act. The police are now intensively probing the forward and backward linkages of this network to identify the full chain of operatives involved.

Ongoing Investigations and Future Actions

Commissioner Bhullar stated that the primary goal of the ongoing investigation is to dismantle the entire smuggling network by uncovering all connections and apprehending every individual involved. This includes tracing the sources of the contraband, the distribution pathways, and the financial transactions that support these illegal operations.

The bust highlights the persistent challenges of cross-border smuggling in regions like Punjab and underscores the proactive measures being taken by law enforcement agencies to combat such crimes. The Amritsar police's operation is part of broader efforts to enhance security and curb the influx of narcotics and arms into the country.

As the investigation progresses, authorities are expected to release further details on the identities of the arrested individuals and any additional seizures. This case serves as a reminder of the critical role of vigilance and international cooperation in addressing transnational criminal activities.
