AMU Teacher Shot Dead During Evening Walk on Campus

In a shocking incident that has sent tremors through the academic community, a 45-year-old computer teacher was shot dead inside the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus on Tuesday evening. The victim, identified as Rao Danish Ali, was attacked during a routine late evening walk with friends.

The Fatal Attack Near Maulana Azad Library

The shooting occurred at approximately 8:50 PM near the canteen behind the iconic Maulana Azad Library. According to eyewitness accounts given to police, Ali was walking with a companion, Imran, when the assailants struck. Imran reported that one of the attackers issued a chilling threat moments before opening fire, stating, "You don't know me yet, now you will."

The attackers, two unidentified individuals, arrived on a two-wheeler. They fired at close range, with one bullet striking Ali above the ear. He collapsed immediately on the spot. The assailants fled the scene right after the shooting, escaping on their vehicle.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Neeraj Kumar Jadaun confirmed the sequence of events. The victim was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead upon arrival. "Two unidentified persons shot Danish, and he was declared dead at the hospital," Jadaun told local media.

Police swiftly barricaded the area and began a forensic examination of the crime scene. SSP Jadaun added that investigators are exploring all possible angles behind the murder. He noted that the victim's family believes the attackers might have been known to Ali. The police chief assured that the case would be solved and the accused apprehended.

The body was taken to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Who Was Rao Danish Ali?

Rao Danish Ali was a respected educator who had been working as a computer teacher at the university-run ABK High School since 2015. An alumnus of AMU, he had deep roots within the institution. His father, Professor Hilal, and mother are both retired AMU staff members.

Ali was originally from the Dibai area and was known as an active member of the campus community. He had served as the captain of the university's Horse Riding Club and was a regular visitor to the library canteen area where the attack took place. His father-in-law, Fiza Ullah Chaudhary, is a former MLA from the Kanth constituency in Moradabad.

A relative, Mohammad Waseem Ali, shared with reporters at the medical college that Danish collapsed instantly after being shot. Family members revealed he had plans to undertake the Umrah pilgrimage in the near future.
