Ancient Human Skeleton Discovered During Nagpur Metro Phase-II Excavation
In a startling discovery, laborers working on the Nagpur Metro Phase-II project unearthed a human skeleton while conducting excavation on Hingna Road on Thursday. The incident occurred around 11 am when workers, using heavy machinery to dig a pit in the middle of the busy thoroughfare, spotted a human skull and bones buried approximately 9 feet below ground level.
The laborers immediately ceased operations and alerted the MIDC Police, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. A police team, led by Inspector Sapna Niranjan and including Assistant Police Inspector Sanjay Bansod, Sub-Inspector Thorat, and other staff, rushed to the site to secure the area and begin an investigation.
Official Response and Retrieval of Remains
Excavation work was halted indefinitely as authorities took control of the situation. The Hingna tehsildar was promptly informed, and Naib Tehsildar Ashwin Meshram arrived at the location to oversee proceedings. In his presence, the skeletal remains were carefully retrieved from the deep pit.
The bones exhibited significant deterioration, indicating that the remains are likely quite old, possibly dating back several years. Police officials noted that no identifiable items, such as clothing or personal effects, were found with the skeleton, leaving no immediate clues to determine the identity of the deceased or the cause of death.
Forensic Analysis and Ongoing Investigation
The skeletal remains have been handed over to a forensic team for detailed examination and analysis. This step is crucial to gather more information about the individual, including potential age, gender, and any signs of trauma that might shed light on the circumstances surrounding the death.
