Andhra Pradesh Government Announces Vision for International Arbitration Hub in Visakhapatnam
The Andhra Pradesh government has unveiled an ambitious plan to establish a world-class international arbitration center in Visakhapatnam, marking a significant step toward enhancing the state's legal infrastructure and supporting its growing MSME sector.
Government Commitment to Alternative Dispute Resolution
State minister Kondapalli Srinivas, speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Asian Centre for International Arbitration and Mediation (ACIAM) center in Visakhapatnam, revealed that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has set the establishment of an international arbitration centre as a key objective for the state government. This announcement came during a major event that also featured the MSME Conference, bringing together policymakers, legal experts, and industry leaders to discuss strengthening India's MSME ecosystem.
The minister emphasized that the government is fully committed to strengthening the alternative dispute resolution system in Andhra Pradesh and will provide comprehensive support to institutions like ACIAM. This initiative follows extensive discussions held in September 2025, which were organized by ACIAM in collaboration with the National Law University.
High-Profile Gathering of Legal and Policy Experts
The inaugural event was distinguished by the presence of Supreme Court Justice N Kotiswar Singh, who served as the guest of honor. His participation underscored the judicial system's support for developing robust alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
Professor Surya Raju, Secretary General of ACIAM and Managing Partner of Trinadha Law Firm, delivered a detailed explanation about the critical importance of effective alternative dispute resolution systems for micro, small, and medium enterprises. He highlighted how such systems can provide timely and cost-effective solutions for MSMEs, which often face significant challenges in navigating traditional legal processes.
Strategic Focus on MSME Ecosystem Development
The MSME Conference that followed the ACIAM center inauguration served as a platform for in-depth deliberations about enhancing India's MSME framework. Participants explored various strategies to create a more supportive environment for small and medium businesses, with particular attention to legal and dispute resolution aspects.
This dual focus on establishing international arbitration capabilities while simultaneously addressing MSME needs represents a comprehensive approach to economic development. The Visakhapatnam initiative positions Andhra Pradesh as a potential leader in alternative dispute resolution within India and potentially across Asia.
The government's proactive stance, combined with institutional partnerships and judicial support, creates a promising foundation for transforming Visakhapatnam into a recognized center for international arbitration and mediation services.
