Kochi: Amid the ongoing rift in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), actress Ansiba Hassan has approached the Tripunithura judicial first class magistrate court, seeking its direction to the police to register a formal case against fellow actor Lakshmi Priya, her husband Jayesh, and the sub-inspector of the Tripunithura women’s cell.
She filed a private complaint after local police reportedly refused to register an FIR on her initial grievance. The court took cognizance of the matter, accepted Ansiba’s complaint into its official records, and assigned a case number. It also demanded an immediate, detailed explanation from the police over the non-registration of an FIR on her complaint submitted to the Hill Palace Station House Officer.
In her complaint, the Drishyam 3 actor alleged that she was 'illegally' detained at the Tripunithura women’s cell after Lakshmi Priya filed a false complaint against her. The magistrate directed the police to submit a comprehensive report on the matter on or before June 17.
“The law enforcement agency will have to formally justify to the court its decision not to register an FIR when the grievance was initially brought before them,” said Ansiba’s counsel Firdose.
Background of the AMMA Rift
The internal rift within AMMA started when Ansiba resigned from her position as the association’s joint secretary. She also accused actor Tini Tom of calling her a ‘jihadi’ and charged him with character assassination. The friction with Lakshmi Priya began over a personal dispute regarding a WhatsApp message, which the latter claimed disrupted her family life, leading her to file a police complaint. Lakshmi Priya had further stated that she would file a defamation case seeking Rs 10 crore against Ansiba.
