Shillong Drug Bust: ANTF Nabs Suspect with Heroin Consignment

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Meghalaya successfully detained a suspect and seized a consignment of heroin in Shillong on Thursday. The operation, based on specific intelligence, led to the recovery of 25.45 grams of the illicit substance.

Operation Based on Tip-Off Leads to Detention

Acting on a crucial tip-off received around 3 pm on Thursday, the ANTF team swung into action. The information indicated that a person identified as Sayed Ali, a resident of Lum Survey in Shillong, had received a drug consignment from an unknown supplier and was preparing to distribute it to customers.

The police team promptly moved to the Lum Survey locality. Upon reaching the spot, they located and detained the suspect, Sayed Ali, for questioning and further investigation.

Hidden Contraband Recovered from Bedroom

Following the detention, the ANTF officials conducted a thorough search of Sayed Ali's house. Their meticulous search yielded results when they discovered hidden contraband.

The drugs were found concealed under the wooden planks of his bed. The recovery included:

  • Two plastic soap cases.
  • Forty vials filled with a suspected yellow or orange powder.

The seized items were immediately taken into custody as evidence.

Substance Confirmed as Heroin

The suspected powder underwent a preliminary field test on-site. The test confirmed the fears of the law enforcement officials. The substance was identified as heroin, a dangerous and illegal narcotic.

The police confirmed the total weight of the confiscated heroin to be 25.45 grams. This seizure represents a notable success for the ANTF in disrupting the local drug supply chain in the state capital.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts of Meghalaya's Anti-Narcotics Task Force to combat the menace of drug trafficking. Investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the consignment and identify the network involved. Further legal proceedings against the detained suspect are underway.
