Kolkata: In a brazen act of violence, several vehicles, including a police vehicle fitted with a blue beacon, an SUV, and a luxury bus, were allegedly vandalised by a group of armed miscreants in Sodepur around 4:30 am on Sunday morning. The incident has sent shockwaves through the locality, prompting a thorough investigation by the police, who are currently examining CCTV footage to identify and capture the attackers.
Attack on Councillor's Vehicle
According to witnesses, the goons arrived in an auto-rickshaw and entered the Peerless Nagar housing complex. They allegedly targeted the car of Swapan Das, the ward 2 councillor of Panihati Municipality. The attackers reportedly used a chair and a bicycle to damage the car. Speaking about the incident, Das said, "They also damaged a luxury bus belonging to my brother." He has lodged a formal complaint at the Khardah Police Station, urging swift action against the perpetrators.
Second Attack on Police Vehicle
At approximately the same time, three miscreants travelling in another auto-rickshaw struck near the Shivaji Sangha ground on Raja Road, where a police vehicle with a blue beacon was parked. The assailants did not spare the official vehicle. "The miscreants smashed the windscreen and attacked it with sticks and iron rods," said Manju Pal, a local resident who witnessed the attack. The police vehicle sustained significant damage, raising concerns about the safety of law enforcement personnel in the area.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspects and are analysing footage from nearby CCTV cameras. The motive behind these coordinated attacks remains unclear, but investigations are ongoing. Police have assured the public that all necessary measures will be taken to bring the culprits to justice and prevent such incidents in the future.
