Armed NSCN(IM) operative arrested in Arunachal's Tirap

In a significant counter-insurgency operation, security forces in Arunachal Pradesh have successfully apprehended an armed militant belonging to the NSCN (IM) faction. The operation, a collaborative effort between the Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles and the state police, was conducted in the Tirap district based on specific intelligence inputs.

Details of the Joint Operation and Arrest

The arrested individual has been identified as self-styled Captain Chopsai Pansa, aged 56. A resident of Chop village under the Wakka circle in the neighbouring Longding district, Pansa was taken into custody around 1:30 PM on December 15. Officials stated that the arrest was executed in a controlled manner with strict adherence to all standard operating procedures, ensuring no collateral damage or escalation.

Following his apprehension by the Assam Rifles personnel, Pansa underwent preliminary questioning. He was subsequently handed over to the local police for a thorough investigation and necessary legal proceedings. Tirap Superintendent of Police, Aditya, confirmed the details of the operation, highlighting its precision and intelligence-driven nature.

Charges and Ongoing Investigations

According to the police, the captured militant was actively involved in illegal extortion activities within the district. More alarmingly, he was also accused of attempting to interfere in the electoral process in Tirap. Such activities pose a direct threat to the democratic framework and the peace and security of the region.

The SP emphasized that this operation is a part of the sustained and concerted efforts by security forces to curb all insurgency-related activities in the strategically sensitive frontier state. The primary objective remains to ensure lasting peace and security for the residents of the district. A further investigation into Pansa's network and activities is currently underway to uncover more details and possible accomplices.

A Step Towards Peace and Stability

This successful joint operation underscores the effective coordination between the Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Pradesh Police. It sends a strong message to insurgent groups about the resolve of the security apparatus to maintain law and order. The arrest of a senior cadre like a self-styled captain is expected to disrupt the illegal activities of the NSCN(IM) faction in the area, particularly its extortion networks and attempts to influence civil processes.

The authorities continue to urge citizens to cooperate and provide credible information to aid in these efforts, reinforcing the collective commitment to uproot insurgency and foster a secure environment for development and democracy in Arunachal Pradesh.
