Varanasi: In a significant breakthrough, police in Mirzapur arrested an arms smuggler following an encounter, while another encounter in Ghazipur led to the arrest of a wanted thief.
Mirzapur Encounter Details
Mirzapur's ASP (city) Nitesh Singh stated that Kachhwan police personnel were patrolling at night when they received an alert about the movement of a notorious arms smuggler on the Bhadohi road via Bhatoli. The police immediately cordoned off the Kewtaveer area and intensified vehicle checks. During the operation, two individuals on a motorcycle were spotted approaching. When the policemen signaled them to stop, the suspects opened fire and attempted to flee. In retaliatory firing by the police, one of the criminals sustained a bullet injury to his leg and fell on the road, while his accomplice managed to escape. The injured criminal was identified as Deveshwar Shukla, a resident of Padri. The police recovered a pistol, two country-made firearms, and cartridges from his possession. He was subsequently rushed to a hospital for medical treatment.
Ghazipur Encounter Details
In a separate incident in Ghazipur, Nandganj police personnel, led by Inspector Atul Kumar Mishra, arrested a rewarded thief named Monu Yadav following an exchange of fire on the Nandganj link road. Yadav also suffered a bullet injury to his leg during the encounter. The police recovered a country-made pistol and cartridges from him and promptly admitted him to a hospital.
