Chief of Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth on Tuesday called on Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Lok Bhavan in Srinagar, officials said. The meeting marked the Army Chief's first visit to the union territory after assuming charge.
A spokesperson confirmed that the Lieutenant Governor and the Army Chief reviewed the prevailing security situation in the region. General Seth was accompanied by Lieutenant General Balbir Singh, General Officer Commanding of the Chinar Corps.
Meeting with Chief Minister
Later, General Seth also met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at his residence in Srinagar. The discussions focused on the overall security landscape and coordination between the Army and the state administration.
The visit underscores the importance of maintaining stability in the region, especially in light of recent developments. The Army Chief's engagement with both the LG and CM highlights the collaborative approach to security management.
First Visit After Assumption of Charge
General Dhiraj Seth took over as the Chief of Army Staff earlier this year. His first official visit to Jammu and Kashmir signals the priority given to the region's security. The Chinar Corps, responsible for operations in the Kashmir Valley, plays a key role in counter-insurgency and border management.
The security review comes amid ongoing efforts to curb militant activities and ensure peace in the region. The Army Chief's discussions with the civil administration aim to strengthen synergy between military and civilian agencies.
