Army Jawan and Nephews Held for YouTuber's Fatal Stabbing in Bhubaneswar
In a shocking incident in Bhubaneswar, an army jawan and his two nephews have been arrested for allegedly stabbing a 32-year-old YouTuber to death. The tragic event unfolded on Saturday night within the limits of the Mancheswar police station, leading to swift police action and arrests within hours.
Details of the Altercation and Arrest
The accused have been identified as Sangram Keshari Behera, a 37-year-old jawan posted in Jammu & Kashmir, and his nephews Samarendra Behera (20) and Sangram Behera (24). Police reports indicate that the victim, Rahul Maharana, was a stranger to the trio, though all resided in the Rasulgarh-GGP Colony locality.
The confrontation began when Maharana and his friends visited a playground in GGP Colony. One of Maharana's friends was speaking loudly on his phone, which disturbed the jawan and his nephews who were seated nearby. When the jawan requested the friend to lower his voice, a heated argument erupted, quickly escalating into a physical fight. In a fit of rage, Sangram allegedly stabbed Maharana, inflicting fatal injuries.
Police Investigation and Evidence
Maharana, who had gone to the playground with three friends, was rushed to two private hospitals before being referred to Capital Hospital. Unfortunately, doctors declared him dead on arrival. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Zone-V) Biswaranjan Senapati stated that prima facie, the murder appears to have stemmed from sudden provocation over a trivial issue.
At the crime scene, police discovered liquor bottles and glasses, though it remains unconfirmed whether the groups were drinking. These items have been sent for forensic examination and fingerprint matching to gather more evidence. Additionally, police obtained vital clues from mobile video clips recorded by eyewitnesses on the spot, which helped in identifying the suspects.
Background of the Accused and Aftermath
Police confirmed that none of the trio had any prior criminal records. ACP Senapati noted that the jawan is attached to an infantry battalion in Jammu & Kashmir and had recently come home on leave. Following the incident, the trio fled on two motorcycles, but police tracked them using CCTV footage and arrested them within three hours of the crime.
Maharana, who was married just three months ago, is survived by a grieving family. His relatives have called for a thorough probe into the incident. S K Das, a relative of the deceased, expressed disbelief, stating, "Murder over a petty argument is hard to believe. Police should question everyone involved to establish the true sequence of events."
