The Indian Army, along with local residents, paid solemn tributes to Rifleman Aurangzeb Khan, a Shaurya Chakra awardee, on the eighth anniversary of his martyrdom. The memorial event took place in his native village of Salani in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir.
Remembering a Braveheart
Rifleman Aurangzeb was abducted and killed by terrorists in Pulwama district eight years ago while traveling home to celebrate Eid with his family. His unwavering courage, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice continue to inspire generations and reinforce the commitment to peace and security in the region.
Memorial Function at Salani
The memorial function was organized by his family with support from the Army. It saw an overwhelming turnout from the entire sub-division, including civil administration officials, family members, and hundreds of villagers. The atmosphere was charged with emotion, pride, and patriotism as floral tributes were offered in remembrance of his supreme sacrifice.
An official stated, "Eight years have passed, but the memory of Rifleman Aurangzeb Khan, Shaurya Chakra, continues to remain deeply etched in the hearts of his family, comrades, and the people of his native village, Salani in Poonch."

The official further emphasized that such bravehearts belong not only to their families but to the entire nation. The gathering reflected this sentiment, with many reaffirming their commitment to carrying forward his legacy of courage, service, and sacrifice.
