Army Soldier Found Naked, Wounded at Home; Wife Detained

Kanpur: The naked and wounded body of an Army soldier was discovered at his residence in Kanpur Dehat on Tuesday, prompting his family to accuse his wife and brother-in-law of murder. Police have detained the wife for questioning.

Incident Details

Suvendra Singh Chauhan, 33, was stationed in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, and had returned home on leave on April 13. He lived in a rented house in Subhash Nagar, Jhinjhak, with his wife and two sons. Originally from Murali Purwa (Lachhiya) Kanchausi in Auraiya, Chauhan had reportedly withdrawn Rs 30 lakh from his General Provident Fund two months ago and sold a plot of land.

Family Allegations

Chauhan's brother, Rajendra Pratap, alleged that the murder occurred on the night of April 26-27, with money as the motive. He stated that on Tuesday, Chauhan's wife, Nidhi, called to say Chauhan had not left his room for two days. When the family arrived, they broke open the door and found him dead. Pratap accused Nidhi and her brother of committing the murder, adding that all of Chauhan's in-laws had fled. The body was found naked with wounds, indicating an attack with a sharp weapon.

Police arrived at the scene and sent the body for autopsy. A medicine vial and a liquor bottle were found in the room. Authorities stated that the case is under investigation, and the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report. ASP Alok Prasad said, "We are examining all aspects based on the family's allegations and questioning the wife and brother-in-law of the deceased."
