Faridkot Police ASI Suspended After Allegedly Tying Granddaughter to Home Gate
In a shocking incident from Bathinda, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Faridkot police was suspended on Wednesday for reportedly tying her five-year-old granddaughter to the iron gate of their residence. The incident occurred while the child's parents were abroad in Portugal, leaving the 55-year-old ASI as the primary caregiver.
Neighbors Intervene After Hearing Child's Distress
According to police reports, neighbors were alerted when they heard the young girl wailing in distress. Upon investigation, they discovered the child with her hands and feet bound using lengths of cloth, secured to the gate. The neighbors immediately intervened, knocking on the door repeatedly, but received no response from inside the house.
Some neighbors took matters into their own hands and began undoing the knots to free the child. It was only at this point that the ASI emerged from the house, released the girl, and hastily took her back inside. Witnesses noted that the child was weeping and attempted to communicate with the neighbors, but her grandmother quickly ushered her away.
Video Evidence Leads to Swift Suspension
The incident gained widespread attention after a video clip surfaced on social media platforms, depicting the troubling scene. In response to the public outcry and the severity of the allegations, police authorities acted promptly. Faridkot DSP Tarlochan Singh confirmed that the ASI has been suspended pending further investigation.
"Finding the incident unacceptable, the ASI has been suspended. The district child welfare committee has been asked to look into the incident, and police are also investigating it," stated DSP Tarlochan Singh. The exact reasons behind the ASI's actions remain unclear, as authorities have not yet determined why she subjected the child to such punishment.

The case has now been escalated to the district child welfare committee, which will conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter.
