In a disturbing case of human trafficking, the Selvapuram police in Coimbatore have arrested a 32-year-old guest worker from Assam for allegedly luring an 18-year-old Bangladeshi girl with false employment promises and attempting to force her into sexual exploitation.
The Deceptive Recruitment
The victim, a native of Bangladesh who had initially traveled to Kolkata in search of employment, was approached by a tout in the city who promised her a lucrative beautician position in Coimbatore. The intermediary introduced her to A Samsudeen, who resides in Coimbatore's Telungupalayam area near Selvapuram. Trusting the job offer, the young woman traveled by train to Coimbatore last week.
False Promises Turn to Exploitation
Upon her arrival in the city, Samsudeen picked her up from the station and took her to his residence, where eight other guest workers were staying. When she inquired about the promised beautician job, he revealed his true intentions - he wanted her to work as a housemaid, performing cooking, cleaning, and laundry duties for the entire household.
The situation turned more sinister when Samsudeen attempted to coerce the young woman into providing sexual favors for himself and the other residents. Showing remarkable courage, the girl managed to escape from the house and immediately approached the Coimbatore city police for protection and justice.
Legal Action and Arrest
The victim filed a formal complaint with the Selvapuram police, who promptly registered a case and initiated an investigation. On Wednesday, authorities arrested Samsudeen on charges of human trafficking and related offenses. Following his arrest, the court remanded him to judicial custody as the investigation continues to identify and apprehend the Kolkata-based tout who facilitated the trafficking.
This case highlights the ongoing challenges of human trafficking networks that prey on vulnerable individuals seeking employment opportunities. Police officials have reiterated their commitment to combating such crimes and protecting potential victims from similar exploitation schemes.
