A coordinated operation involving the Special Task Force (STF) of Bihar and the Begusarai district police culminated in the arrest of an individual from Assam on Thursday. The suspect, identified as Murari Kumar, was taken into custody in relation to the violent shooting incident targeting national-level volleyball athlete Govind Kumar, aged 20.

The attack unfolded on G D College road located in the Mirganj area of Begusarai. Govind Kumar was en route to his regular practice session when he was ambushed by criminals riding a motorcycle. The assailants opened fire, critically injuring the promising volleyball player. He was swiftly transported to a medical facility in Patna, where he continues to receive treatment and remains in a serious condition.
Police Investigation Reveals Motive Behind the Shooting
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Anand Kumar Pandey provided crucial insights into the motive driving this brutal attack. According to the senior police official, the shooting originated from a personal dispute connected to a romantic relationship. "The investigation has uncovered that an individual named Bhupendra Kumar orchestrated the assault by hiring criminals to eliminate Govind Kumar," stated SDPO Pandey.
The officer further disclosed that the contract for this criminal act was valued at approximately Rs 5 lakh, highlighting the premeditated nature of the violence.
Ongoing Manhunt for Remaining Accused Individuals
Law enforcement authorities have successfully identified a total of four individuals allegedly involved in this case. While Murari Kumar has been apprehended, the search intensifies for the three other accused persons who are currently evading capture.
