Massive Drug Bust in Silchar: Rs 6 Crore Yaba Tablets Seized
Assam Police Seize 20,000 Yaba Tablets in Silchar

Major Narcotics Haul in Assam's Silchar

In a significant blow to drug trafficking networks, a joint team of police and paramilitary forces seized 20,000 Yaba tablets with an estimated street value of approximately Rs 6 crore during an anti-narcotics operation in Silchar on Monday. The operation led to the arrest of one individual believed to be involved in the illicit drug trade.

Coordinated Operation Nets Suspect

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, personnel from Silchar Sadar Police Station joined forces with the 38 Battalion of Assam Rifles, Srikona to conduct the interception. The team successfully apprehended the suspect during afternoon hours at Silchar's Changkuri Bypass area, a location known for such illegal activities.

The accused has been identified as Rahul Amin, aged 33, who resides at Panchayat Road in Silchar. During the search operation conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, authorities recovered the massive consignment of Yaba tablets along with a mobile handset from his possession.

Drug Consignment Destined for Regional Distribution

Preliminary investigations suggest that the seized Yaba tablets—a dangerous methamphetamine-based party drug—were likely intended for widespread distribution across the region. The sheer quantity of tablets indicates the operation was targeting multiple distribution points, potentially affecting numerous communities.

Following standard procedure, the recovered contraband and electronic evidence were transported to Silchar Sadar Police Station for further legal processing. Police have officially registered a case and initiated a comprehensive investigation to trace the entire supply network behind this substantial drug consignment.

Chief Minister Applauds Security Forces

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma publicly commended the successful operation through his social media channels. He praised Assam Police for their consistent and determined efforts in combating the drug menace that has been affecting the state.

Notably, the Chief Minister also highlighted another successful drug bust operation that occurred in Guwahati on the same day, indicating a coordinated statewide crackdown on narcotics trafficking. This dual success demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations against drug cartels operating in Assam.

The recent seizure represents one of the significant narcotics interceptions in the Barak Valley region this year, underscoring the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in controlling the flow of illegal substances. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to continuing such coordinated operations to dismantle drug networks completely.
