Major Drug Bust in Assam: Police Seize Yaba Tablets Valued at Over Rs 30 Crore

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Dholai police in Assam's Cachar district executed a successful operation on Saturday evening, leading to the seizure of yaba tablets with an estimated street value exceeding Rs 30 crore. The action was based on precise intelligence inputs that guided officers to a suspicious truck parked along the Dholai-Lailapur road at Arzanpur.

Discovery of Concealed Contraband

Upon intercepting the vehicle, law enforcement personnel conducted a meticulous search that revealed a hidden chamber ingeniously built into the truck's structure. From this concealed compartment, authorities recovered 11 large packets, each meticulously wrapped in black polythene. Police sources confirmed that every packet contained 10,000 yaba tablets, bringing the total haul to an astonishing 1.10 lakh tablets.

Additional Evidence and Suspicions

Beyond the narcotics, the operation yielded crucial evidence that could aid in further investigations. Officers also confiscated two number plates and two mobile phones from inside the truck. Investigators have raised suspicions that the number plates may not be authentic and could have been employed as a tactic to avoid detection by law enforcement agencies, highlighting the sophisticated methods used by traffickers.

New Modus Operandi Uncovered

Officials involved in the case emphasized that drug syndicates are increasingly resorting to advanced techniques to transport illegal substances. They noted a trend of using modified heavy vehicles equipped with secret compartments to smuggle narcotics without raising alarms. A senior police officer remarked, "This recovery clearly indicates a new modus operandi adopted by drug syndicates to bypass security checks," underscoring the evolving challenges faced by authorities in combating such crimes.

Legal Proceedings Initiated

In response to the seizure, a formal case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This legal step marks the beginning of a thorough investigation aimed at dismantling the network behind this large-scale drug trafficking attempt. The operation serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by Assam police to curb the flow of illegal drugs in the region.

The successful bust in Dholai not only disrupts a major supply chain but also sheds light on the innovative methods employed by traffickers, prompting authorities to enhance their vigilance and strategies in future operations.
