Chennai: A 35-year-old man from Assam was beaten to death by a mob in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu on Friday after he allegedly misbehaved with a woman. The deceased has been identified as Prosenjit Das, a native of Kamrup district in Assam.
According to police, Das was one of six workers who had arrived in Tiruvallur on Wednesday in search of employment. The group had rented a room in the area. On Friday evening, Das, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, approached a woman who was alone at her home and asked for water. When she refused and attempted to close the door, he allegedly tried to misbehave with her. The woman managed to shut the door and went inside, but Das then damaged the windowpanes using a knife.
The woman called her relatives, who, along with some villagers, confronted Das. The mob assaulted him, and he succumbed to severe injuries from the attack. Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
