ATM Loot Attempt Thwarted by Alarm in Ludhiana's Mansura Village
An attempted ATM robbery was successfully foiled in Mansura village, located under the jurisdiction of the Jodhan police station in Ludhiana, late on Sunday night. The incident unfolded when the machine's built-in alarm system was triggered, causing the masked assailants to abandon their plan and make a hasty escape.
Details of the Failed Robbery Attempt
According to police reports, the miscreants arrived at the ATM kiosk in a car under the cover of darkness. They entered the premises and immediately began efforts to break open the ATM vault. The suspects used an iron rod and a gas cutter in their attempt to force the door open, demonstrating a premeditated approach to the crime.
However, their efforts were cut short when the ATM's alarm system activated during their break-in attempt. The sudden sound of the alarm startled the perpetrators, compelling them to flee the scene in the same vehicle they had arrived in, leaving their tools behind.
Police Response and Investigation
Bank official Tehil Singh promptly filed a formal complaint with the Jodhan police station regarding the incident. Acting on this complaint, authorities have registered a case against unidentified persons and launched a comprehensive investigation.
ASI Kabal Singh of Jodhan police station provided additional details, stating that the complainant reported seeing several masked men attempting to breach the vault with an iron rod. The bank's electronic surveillance team played a crucial role by immediately alerting officials via telephone about the suspicious activity at the ATM site.
Following the alert, bank staff quickly arrived at the location to assess the situation. Their inspection revealed that one of the accused had also attempted to cut the ATM lock using a gas cutter, though this effort proved unsuccessful.
Evidence Collection and Ongoing Probe
Police authorities have confirmed that CCTV footage from cameras installed in the vicinity is being carefully examined to identify the suspects. DSP Dakha Varinder Singh Khosa expressed confidence that the perpetrators would be identified and apprehended soon.
The timely activation of the alarm system prevented significant damage to the ATM machine and potentially saved the financial institution from substantial losses. Police have emphasized that the investigation remains active, with further details expected as the probe continues.
This incident highlights the importance of security systems in deterring criminal activities at automated teller machines, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas where such attempts occasionally occur.
