Jaipur: A 45-year-old assistant treasury officer (ATO) allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Dausa district, a day after an FIR was lodged against him in connection with the death of a woman junior accountant, police said Friday.
The deceased, identified as Manoj Meena, was found hanging at his house in Sinduki village under Mahwa police station area Thursday night. His death comes days after the junior accountant allegedly died after consuming poison. On Thursday, her brother lodged an FIR at Manpur police station, accusing Meena of harassment and other offences.
Police said a suicide note was recovered from the spot in which Meena allegedly blamed two persons for his death. Investigators suspect he took the extreme step after the FIR was registered against him. According to family members, Meena was alone at home Thursday, as his wife had gone to her parental home. When repeated phone calls from relatives went unanswered, a tenant was asked to check on him Friday morning and found him hanging, they said.
Based on the contents of the suicide note, family members have submitted a complaint to police, officials said. Several people visited the district hospital following the incident.
“The woman was posted as a junior accountant in the same office where Meena worked in Dausa district and had been serving there for the past year. On Wednesday, her condition reportedly deteriorated while she was on duty, following which colleagues rushed her to a hospital where she died,” an official said, adding that the circumstances surrounding her death were still under investigation.
