In a significant development, Padari police in Mirzapur district arrested Ajay Bind (20), the prime accused in the murder of a minor girl, near Baudari hill early Monday morning. Bind, who had been on the run, was apprehended after a brief encounter in which he sustained a bullet injury to his leg.
Details of the Crime
According to police reports, Bind had accompanied his friend Sajan alias Rajan to meet the latter’s 15-year-old girlfriend on Saturday night. During the meeting, Bind attempted to rape the girl. When she resisted, Bind and Sajan killed her by strangulating her with a scarf and then striking her with a heavy stone. The duo disposed of the body in a field and fled the scene. Sajan was arrested on Sunday, while Bind remained at large.
Police Operation and Arrest
Mirzapur Superintendent of Police Aparna Rajat Kaushik stated that police were actively searching for Bind across the district. Late Sunday night, Padari police received intelligence that Bind was moving on a motorcycle towards Gauraraj village. To intercept him, a cordon was set up in the Baudri Pahadi area.
When Bind realized he was surrounded, he opened fire at the police officers. In retaliatory firing, Bind was hit in the leg and subsequently apprehended. Police recovered a country-made firearm, cartridges, a motorcycle, a mobile phone, and the scarf used in the crime from his possession. He was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Confession and Legal Proceedings
During interrogation, Bind confessed that after the girl refused to have sex with him, both he and Sajan strangled her and struck her with a stone. They then disposed of the body in a field and fled. Bind had been hiding at his home but decided to leave the district after learning that Sajan had been arrested and had disclosed Bind’s involvement to the police.
Police are continuing their investigation, and further legal proceedings are underway. The accused will be produced in court once he is medically fit.
