According to police reports, the crash took place at approximately 4:45 PM near a hotel on the highway. The auto-rickshaw, carrying five individuals, was traveling from Katchipattu to Nemili. The group was reportedly on their way to celebrate the birthday of one of the passengers, 26-year-old V Suriya. In a tragic turn of events, the auto attempted to cross the highway from the incorrect side, directly into the path of an oncoming lorry traveling at high speed from the opposite direction.

- J Dhanasekar, 23, a resident of Sriperumbudur
- R Dhanapal, 47, from Tiruvallur district

- S Sathyaraj, 36 – Suffered a fractured right leg and was taken to CMC Hospital
