Ayodhya E-Rickshaw Driver Murdered in Faridabad Jail, Body Expected Home Wednesday
The body of Abdul Rehman, a 20-year-old e-rickshaw driver from Ayodhya, is anticipated to arrive at his family home by Wednesday. Rehman was tragically murdered inside Faridabad's Neemka Jail during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The alleged perpetrator was a fellow inmate identified as Arun Chaudhary, also known as Abbu Jatt.
Arrest and Allegations of Terror Plot
Abdul Rehman was apprehended on March 2 last year from Pali village in Faridabad. The arrest was a joint operation conducted by the Haryana Special Task Force (STF) and the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS). Authorities accused him of allegedly planning an attack on the renowned Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Following his arrest, the Gujarat ATS made significant claims. They stated that Rehman was a self-radicalized individual, often described as a "lone wolf," who had been influenced by extremist propaganda online. The ATS further alleged that he had confessed to possessing two hand grenades, which were subsequently safely neutralized by a specialized bomb disposal squad. Consequently, he was formally charged under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
Circumstances Leading to the Fatal Incident
Police officials have indicated that the fatal altercation between Rehman and Chaudhary may have roots in a dispute that occurred approximately two weeks prior to the killing. The exact nature of this disagreement remains under investigation, but it is believed to have escalated into the violent incident that claimed Rehman's life.
Family's Anguish and Legal Efforts
The news has devastated Rehman's family in Ayodhya. His uncle, Israr, revealed that the family was actively in the process of securing bail for Abdul when the tragedy struck. "We were in touch with a lawyer and had filed a bail application in a Faridabad court," Israr stated. "Before anything could materialize, this heartbreaking tragedy took place."
Israr, along with Rehman's father, Abu Bakar, traveled to Faridabad jail to claim the body. Rehman's mother, Ashmeen, is reported to be in a state of profound shock. "We just met him in jail. I don't know what happened to my child. Please show me his face once," she pleaded repeatedly, according to family accounts.
Final Family Visit and Discovery of the Incident
Israr provided a poignant account of the family's last visit. Rehman's parents met him in jail on Thursday night. They communicated through a glass partition using a telephone. "He was seated on one side of the glass partition, while my sister and brother-in-law sat on the other side. She had brought some food for him, but it was not permitted to be given to prisoners," Israr recalled.
The family learned of the incident around 9:30 AM when jail authorities, unable to reach Abu Bakar due to his phone being switched off, contacted Kailash Jaiswal, the son of the village head. "That is how we came to know something terrible had happened in Faridabad jail," Israr explained.
Background of the Deceased
Abdul Rehman was a Class 10 pass-out who had been residing in Milkipur, Ayodhya, for the past five years. He supported himself and his family by driving an e-rickshaw. His mother disclosed that Rehman suffered from a congenital heart condition and had undergone surgery during his childhood. He was the only son in the family, leaving behind three sisters.
The case highlights severe concerns regarding inmate safety and security within the prison system. As the investigation continues, the family mourns the loss of their son, whose body is now making the solemn journey back to Ayodhya.
