Police reports suggest that Anis Yadav was loading the weapon, possibly to show dominance in the area, when it accidentally discharged. There is also speculation circulating that Yadav might have been attempting to make a social media reel with the firearm when it went off. The bullet struck Alok Verma in the stomach, leading to catastrophic injuries.

Following the shooting, the youths involved, including the alleged shooter Anis Yadav, fled the scene. Alok Verma was rushed to Medical College Darshan Nagar in a critical condition. Due to the severity of his injuries, doctors referred him to a hospital in Lucknow for advanced treatment. Tragically, he succumbed to his wounds while en route.
Ayodhya's SP City, Chakrapani Tripathi, confirmed the swift arrest of the accused, Anis Yadav. The weapon used in the killing, described as a country-made pistol of .32 bore, has been recovered by the police.
