A 20-year-old man and his juvenile accomplice were arrested following a brief exchange of fire with Bilariyaganj police personnel in Azamgarh district early Tuesday morning. The duo had snatched the purse of a woman who was commuting on an e-rickshaw on May 23. The adult accused has been identified as Fuzail Ahmad.
Details of the Incident
Azamgarh ASP (rural) Chirag Jain stated that during night patrol, Bilariyaganj police received an alert and cordoned off the Naseerpur canal road to intercept the motorcycle-borne miscreants. Upon realizing they were surrounded by law enforcement, the suspects opened fire at the police team and attempted to make a U-turn to escape. However, in retaliatory action by the police, Fuzail Ahmad sustained a bullet injury in his leg and was apprehended.
Recovery of Weapons and Stolen Items
Police also detained the juvenile accomplice. A country-made pistol, cartridges, a mobile phone, a ladies bag, Rs 9,800 in cash, and the motorcycle used in the crime were recovered from their possession. Fuzail Ahmad was immediately rushed to the district hospital for medical treatment.

On May 23, a woman resident of Mahajbeen in Rasoolpur was returning home by e-rickshaw from Bilriyaganj market when Fuzail and his accomplice snatched her purse containing cash and a mobile phone before fleeing. By examining CCTV footage, police identified the thief and launched a manhunt that led to the early morning encounter.
