In a move to ensure discipline and alertness, the in-charge Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bagaha, Nirmala Kumari, carried out a rigorous and unannounced midnight inspection of two key police stations in the West Champaran district. The surprise check, conducted on Tuesday night, aimed to assess the on-ground reality of police operations during the late hours.
Spot Checks Reveal Mixed Results
The SP's inspection tour began at the Pathkhauli police station. There, she found the officer on duty, Dinesh Mehra, actively engaged in his work, drafting a chargesheet. This demonstrated a commitment to duty during the night shift.
However, the scenario was starkly different at the subsequent stop, the Town police station in Bagaha. Upon arrival, SP Nirmala Kumari discovered that the officer assigned to night duty was not present at his post. The officer reportedly appeared only after being informed about the SP's unexpected visit.
Strict Admonishment and Clear Directives
The absence did not go unnoticed. SP Nirmala Kumari reprimanded the officer for dereliction of duty. She issued a stern warning, emphasizing the necessity of honesty and unwavering commitment to their responsibilities while on duty.
Explaining the rationale behind the midnight inspection, the SP outlined the key parameters under scrutiny. The surprise visit was designed to evaluate the alertness of the staff, overall cleanliness of the premises, strict adherence to duty rosters—particularly night patrols—and the living conditions within the police station facilities.
Emphasis on Enhanced Vigilance
SP Nirmala Kumari stressed the critical importance of robust night patrolling. She asserted that increased and visible night patrols are essential to instil a sense of fear among wrongdoers and to bolster public safety. Such proactive measures, she indicated, are non-negotiable for maintaining law and order effectively.
This surprise inspection underscores a hands-on approach by police leadership in Bihar's West Champaran district to enforce accountability and ensure that police stations function with optimum efficiency round the clock.
