Bangladeshi National Arrested in Varanasi with Stolen Studio Equipment
In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, the Ramnagar police in Varanasi apprehended a Bangladeshi intruder, Mohd Bashar, during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. The arrest occurred as Bashar was en route to Nepal via Bihar, intending to sell articles he had stolen from a studio in Pune, Maharashtra.
Details of the Arrest and Investigation
Acting on a tip-off from informers, the police launched a checking drive along the Varanasi-Howrah highway. They successfully intercepted Bashar in the Sujabad area while he was riding a motorbike. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Kotwali, Vijay Pratap Singh, confirmed that Bashar was living in India without a valid visa or passport.
During the initial investigation, police recovered a high-end motorcycle, a drone, expensive cameras, an iPad, a watch, a camera stand, and other electronic equipment from his possession. Bashar confessed that on March 14, he broke into a studio in the Alankar area of Karvnagar, Navsahyadri in Pune, and stole these items. The motorcycle he used was reportedly hired from a friend.
Uncovering Forged Documents and Illegal Entry
As the investigation progressed, authorities discovered that Bashar had used forged documents to operate in India. He obtained a fake driving license and Aadhaar card from Hyderabad under a false name and address. Using these documents, he opened a bank account at a nationalized bank's Balapur branch in Hyderabad and secured a debit card.
Bashar revealed during interrogation that he traveled from Dhaka to Kathmandu, Nepal, on February 20, and then illegally entered India through the Raksaul border in Bihar. He subsequently visited Hyderabad and Maharashtra, using the forged documents to conceal his identity.
Legal Implications and Ongoing Probe
The arrest highlights ongoing concerns about illegal immigration and document fraud in India. Police are continuing their investigation to determine if Bashar was involved in other criminal activities and to identify any accomplices. The case underscores the importance of vigilance in border security and document verification processes.
This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges authorities face in combating cross-border crimes and identity theft. The recovered items have been seized as evidence, and Bashar is expected to face charges related to theft, illegal stay, and forgery.
