Thiruvananthapuram: A 47-year-old Bangladeshi national, who was allegedly residing illegally in Kollam for several months, was arrested by Kollam east police near Pullikada on Sunday. The arrested person was identified as Mohammed Naddu Hasan, a resident of Delakpur in Bangladesh.
According to police, he was taken into custody during a verification drive conducted in the area. Investigators revealed that Hasan had been staying in Kollam for months without valid documents authorizing his stay in India. During the inspection, police recovered a Bangladeshi national identity card from his possession, which confirmed his nationality.
Police stated that further inquiries are underway to determine when and how he entered the country, and whether he had been employed or residing at different locations within the district. Authorities are also examining if any local individuals or agencies facilitated his stay.
A senior police officer said the arrest was part of intensified checks being carried out to identify foreign nationals residing in the district without valid travel or immigration documents. Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation.
