Bangladeshi Duo Caught with Fake Indian Passports at Ahmedabad Airport
In a significant immigration breach, two Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad while attempting to board a Dubai-bound flight using forged Indian passports. The incident occurred on Friday when immigration officials detected suspicious documents during routine checks.
Detailed Account of the Immigration Fraud
According to the official complaint filed by assistant immigration officer Surendra Firoda on Saturday, the first suspect was initially identified as Ridoy Bhadra, holding an Indian passport issued from the Regional Passport Office in Kolkata. The passenger claimed to be a resident of Milannagar Paschim village in West Bengal.
During the immigration clearance process, officials found Bhadra's profile questionable and subjected him to additional questioning. The traveler eventually confessed that his real name was Jayant Biswas and that he had illegally entered India from Bangladesh in 2017. Following his unauthorized entry, he had systematically changed his identity to Ridoy Bhadra and fraudulently obtained multiple Indian documents including an Aadhaar card, voter ID, and passport under this false identity.
Second Case Reveals Similar Pattern
In a parallel incident detailed in another complaint, a second traveler identified as Mithun Biswas was found holding an Indian passport issued from the Visakhapatnam Regional Passport Office. During immigration formalities, this passenger failed to provide essential details, raising immediate red flags among officials.
Further investigation revealed that Biswas was actually Mithun Bala, a resident of Kalinagar in Bangladesh who had illegally crossed into India in 2018. Similar to the first case, he had adopted the new identity of Mithun Biswas and fraudulently acquired an Aadhaar card, PAN card, and passport. His forged documents listed him as a resident of Bangshinagar village in the Hanskali block of Nadia district, West Bengal.
Legal Consequences and Police Action
The Airport Police registered a formal case on Saturday under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include cheating by personation, forgery, using forged documents as genuine, forgery of valuable security, and abetment to crime.
The specific sections invoked were 319(2), 336(2), 336(3), 338, 340(2), and 54 of the BNS, indicating the seriousness of the immigration fraud and document forgery charges. Both individuals remain in custody as investigations continue into their activities and the networks that facilitated their document forgery operations.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Indian immigration authorities in detecting sophisticated document forgery attempts and preventing unauthorized international travel using fake identities. The case has prompted authorities to review security protocols at international departure points across the country.
