The accused, identified as Munna Mayuddin Shaikh alias Guddu, was taken into custody on Thursday, just one day after the brazen daylight shooting incident.
According to police officials, Shaikh works as a manager in a bar and restaurant in Mumbai. He was produced before a local court which remanded him in police custody until November 27 to facilitate further investigation into the case.
Shooting Incident Details Emerge
The violent attack occurred on Wednesday around 2 pm in Ganesh Nagar, Kandivali (West). The victim, Freddy D'lima, a 42-year-old real estate agent, was leaving a school after meeting someone when three unidentified assailants waiting outside opened fire on him.
Police investigation reveals that one bullet struck D'lima in the abdomen while another hit his chest. Despite sustaining these serious injuries, the real estate agent displayed remarkable presence of mind by driving himself to Oscar Hospital for immediate medical attention.
Doctors at the hospital successfully removed both bullets from D'lima's body, and authorities confirm he is currently out of danger and receiving treatment.
Investigation Uncovers Financial Motive
During their probe, the Charkop police discovered that the shooting resulted from a financial dispute between Shaikh and D'lima. The arrested accused allegedly planned to kill the real estate agent over this monetary conflict.
A police officer involved in the investigation noted that D'lima has enmity with several people, and authorities are questioning some of them to gather additional leads in the case.
The three shooters responsible for the actual attack remain at large. Multiple teams from the Crime Branch and local police are conducting intensive searches to locate the suspects.
According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary investigation, the assailants used a motorcycle for the attack. The bike rider and one pillion rider were wearing helmets, while the third accomplice wore a cap. All three had covered their faces with masks to avoid identification.
The Charkop police have registered a case of attempt to murder along with other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Forensic teams have collected evidence from the crime scene, and authorities are examining CCTV footage from cameras in the area to gather more information about the perpetrators and their movements.
