Barabanki Administration Demolishes Houses of Murder Accused in Land Encroachment Crackdown
In a decisive action against illegal land occupation, the Barabanki district administration on Monday demolished houses belonging to several individuals accused in the murder of a 20-year-old man, Mithun Rawat. The operation targeted structures in the Kursi area of Barabanki, which officials confirmed were built after encroaching on government land.
Background of the Murder Case
The demolition followed the brutal killing of Mithun Rawat from Lucknow, who was allegedly murdered by a group of 11 people. The motive stemmed from an old enmity and suspicions related to a love affair. Police investigations revealed that the dispute had historical roots, with Mithun's family filing a case in 2019 against Irfan and an associate for allegedly harassing his sister, a matter still pending in court.
The situation escalated dramatically during the Holi festival this year when Mithun reportedly attempted to speak to a girl from Irfan's family over the phone. He was subsequently lured to a secluded location, where he was made to consume alcohol before being attacked with a sharp-edged weapon, leading to his death.
Police Action and Arrests
Law enforcement authorities have made significant progress in the case, arresting seven of the accused and sending them to jail. A minor involved in the crime was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. However, three suspects remain on the run, with police continuing their manhunt.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Irfan alias Aghori
- Rizwan
- Armaan
- Mohammad Javed
All four are residents of Durripurwa, along with Ayan and Mohammad Amir from the Mullatola locality of Kursi. Circle officer (Fatehpur) Jagtaram Kannaujia provided these details, emphasizing the coordinated efforts between police and revenue departments.

A joint team comprising revenue and police department officials conducted the demolition in Durripurwa village. They targeted several temporary illegal structures that had been erected on government land without authorization. For residents of permanent constructions in the area, authorities issued a two-day notice to vacate the premises, ensuring compliance with land regulations.
