Tragic Discovery in Bareilly: Man and Pet Dog Found Dead in Locked Residence

In a heartbreaking incident in Bareilly, a 30-year-old man and his pet dog were discovered deceased inside a locked house in the Izzatnagar area. Police officials confirmed the grim find on Tuesday, with initial investigations pointing toward a suspected case of suicide following the poisoning of his canine companion.

Financial and Personal Struggles Preceded the Tragedy

According to relatives, the deceased, identified as Nikhil Arora, resided alone in a rented accommodation within the Kailashpuram locality. His life had been marked by significant hardships, including the loss of his private sector employment during the Covid-19 pandemic. The family had faced profound personal losses, with his father passing away in 2015 and his mother succumbing to cancer in 2021. Compounding these tragedies, the family was compelled to sell their house due to severe financial distress.

"He had borrowed money from a few people and was under pressure to repay," revealed his cousin, Dheeraj Kumar, highlighting the mounting economic pressures that plagued Arora. His sisters, who live in Lucknow, were not residing with him at the time of the incident.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Discovery

The matter came to light when Dheeraj Kumar approached the police on Monday evening after repeated attempts to contact Arora proved futile. Police noted that Arora had a routine of visiting his cousin for breakfast, but on the day of the incident, his phone remained unreachable. Growing concerned, Dheeraj went to check on him, only to find the house locked from the inside, prompting an immediate alert to the authorities.

A police team swiftly arrived at the scene, forced open the door, and made the tragic discovery. Arora was found lying dead in the room, with his deceased pet labrador, named Dollar, beside him. The scene painted a somber picture of the final moments.

Evidence Points to Poisoning

During the investigation, police recovered critical evidence, including two sealed packets of buttermilk, one empty packet, and an empty container of toxic pesticide. Senior Superintendent of Police (City) Manush Pareek stated, "Initial investigation suggests that he may have mixed the poison in buttermilk, given it to his dog and then consumed the same." This indicates a premeditated act, with the man allegedly ensuring his pet did not survive without him.

Underlying Personal Distress

Adding to the financial woes, a relative disclosed that Arora was grappling with intense personal distress. "He was in a relationship and wanted to get married, but due to his financial condition, the woman could not inform her family. As her marriage was arranged elsewhere, it affected him deeply," the relative explained. This emotional turmoil likely exacerbated his sense of isolation and despair.

Ongoing Investigation and Aftermath

Police have confirmed that no formal complaint has been filed in connection with the incident, and further investigations are actively underway to piece together the complete sequence of events. The body of Nikhil Arora was handed over to his family following a postmortem examination, allowing them to proceed with the final rites.

This tragic case underscores the severe impact of compounded financial, personal, and emotional crises, highlighting the need for community support and mental health awareness. The loss of both a young man and his loyal pet has left the local community in Bareilly in a state of shock and mourning.
