Bareilly Man Allegedly Strangled by Wife, Family Staged Suicide as Murder Unfolds
In a shocking incident in Bareilly, a man was allegedly strangled to death by his wife while her parents and brother physically restrained him during a domestic dispute. The accused then reportedly hanged the body from a window grill using a muffler to create the appearance of a suicide, according to police officials on Sunday.
Postmortem Reveals Strangulation, Leads to Arrests
The grim discovery was made on January 26 when the body of Jitendra Kumar Yadav, a 33-year-old contract employee at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), was found hanging at his rented residence in the Izzat Nagar police station area. The deceased, originally from Bhaupora in Etawah district, resided in Girja Shankar Colony, Kailashpuram, with his wife, Jyoti.
Initially, authorities treated the case as a suicide. However, the situation took a dramatic turn after Jitendra's brother, Ajay Kumar, filed a formal complaint. This prompted police to register a case against Jyoti and three others for abetment to suicide and to conduct a postmortem examination.
"The postmortem report confirmed that the cause of death was strangulation," stated Circle Officer Pankaj Srivastava. Following this crucial finding, the charges were escalated to murder, leading to the arrests of Jyoti, her father Kalicharan, and her mother Chameli, all residents of Durga Nagar locality, on Saturday.
Interrogation Unveils Motive and Method
During police interrogation, Jyoti provided a detailed account of the events. She revealed that she and Jitendra had been acquainted since their school days and had married the previous year with their families' approval. Jitendra worked on a contract basis at IVRI, while Jyoti was employed as a contract bus conductor with the Uttar Pradesh Road Transport Corporation.
The relationship, however, was marred by persistent financial disagreements that frequently escalated into heated arguments. During one such altercation, Jyoti contacted her parents, who, along with her brother Deepak, promptly arrived at the couple's home.
In a fit of rage during the ensuing scuffle, Jyoti allegedly strangled Jitendra while her parents and brother held down his hands and legs. After confirming he was unresponsive, the family meticulously staged the scene to mimic a suicide. They used a muffler to suspend the body from a window grill, then alerted neighbors, claiming Jitendra had taken his own life.
Ongoing Investigation and Manhunt
Police have identified Jyoti's brother, Deepak, as a co-accused and are actively pursuing his whereabouts. Authorities emphasized that a comprehensive investigation is underway to uncover all facets of this tragic case, which has sent shockwaves through the local community.
