Barmer Woman's Alleged Dowry Death Sparks Police Investigation
A tragic incident has unfolded in the Sedwa police station area of Barmer district, where a 24-year-old married woman allegedly died by suicide. The deceased, identified as Indira Devi, was a resident of Barmer district and lived in Dhakon ki Dhani village with her husband's family.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday. Indira Devi had reportedly gone to her room after dinner on Tuesday night but did not emerge the following morning. Growing concerned, relatives forced open the door and discovered her hanging inside the room.
Police were immediately informed and reached the spot to secure the scene. The body was later taken to the mortuary for post-mortem examination after her maternal family arrived at the location.
Family Allegations of Dowry Harassment
Indira's uncle, Veerdaram, has made serious allegations against her in-laws. He claims that Indira was frequently harassed by her husband's family for dowry demands. "We had even tried to counsel the in-laws about this situation," Veerdaram stated.
The family's account suggests a pattern of harassment that may have contributed to the tragic outcome. "We were informed in the morning that she was not opening the door. When we reached there, police were already present and she was found hanging," Veerdaram added.
Police Response and Investigation
Based on a formal complaint filed by Indira's maternal family, police have registered a case of dowry harassment against multiple family members. The accused include her husband Madan, who worked as a photographer, along with her brother-in-law and mother-in-law.
Sedwa Station House Officer Prabhuram confirmed that a suicide note was recovered from the scene. The matter is now being investigated by Chauhtan DSP Jetharam, who will oversee the probe into the circumstances surrounding Indira's death.
Background of the Marriage
Indira Devi had been married to Madan for approximately three years at the time of her death. The couple resided in Dhakon ki Dhani village, where the alleged harassment is said to have occurred. The case highlights ongoing concerns about dowry-related violence in certain communities.
Police officials have emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and all aspects of the case are being examined thoroughly. The recovery of the suicide note may provide crucial evidence in understanding the motivations behind this tragic event.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are gathering statements from family members, neighbors, and other potential witnesses to build a comprehensive understanding of the events leading to Indira Devi's death.
