In a significant crackdown on illegal liquor trade, authorities in Barwani district have seized large quantities of contraband in two separate operations. The excise department intercepted a pickup vehicle near Dawana town on the Agra-Mumbai national highway under Thikri police station limits during a routine checking drive. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled before officials could detain him. Upon searching the vehicle, officials discovered 100 cartons of whisky concealed beneath fodder sacks. The seized liquor amounted to approximately 900 litres.
Confiscation and Legal Action
The liquor consignment and the vehicle were confiscated. A case has been registered against an unidentified accused under the Madhya Pradesh Excise Act. Investigations are underway to trace the origin and intended destination of the liquor.
Second Seizure in Parcha Village
In a separate incident, the Chachariya police outpost team seized 42 cartons of illegally stored country-made and foreign liquor from a house in Parcha village. Sendhwa Sub Divisional Officer of Police Ajay Waghmare confirmed the seizure. Police are investigating the source of the liquor and those involved in its storage and distribution.
Both operations highlight the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb the illegal liquor trade in the region. Authorities have urged the public to provide any information regarding such activities.
