Tragic Gorge Accident in Barwani Claims Two Lives, Leaves Two Seriously Injured
A devastating road accident in the Pati police station area of Barwani district resulted in two fatalities and two serious injuries on Friday morning. The incident occurred when a car lost control and plunged approximately 300 feet into a deep gorge near Biliyapani Ghat, close to Golgaon village.
Details of the Fatal Crash
According to Pati police station in-charge Ram Das Yadav, the vehicle was traveling from Barwani to Semlet when the driver apparently lost control. The car fell into a gorge that is 600 feet deep, but it became lodged on a tree at the 300-foot mark, which may have prevented an even worse outcome.
"On the basis of preliminary inquiry, it appeared that either the driver fell asleep at the wheel, or he lost balance and couldn't turn the vehicle, leading to the accident," Yadav stated, highlighting the possible causes under investigation.
Emergency Response and Rescue Operation
Local villagers were first to arrive at the scene and immediately alerted the police. A police team led by SDOP Mahesh Sunaiya quickly reached the location and, with significant assistance from villagers, conducted a challenging rescue operation to retrieve both the injured and deceased from the steep gorge.
The rescue effort required considerable time and coordination due to the difficult terrain and depth of the gorge.
Victims and Medical Emergency Context
The victims have been identified as:
- Sakariya, 42: Died at the accident scene
- Ikram, 32: The driver and car owner who succumbed to injuries during treatment at Pati hospital
- Biyalal and Bhanga: Both sustained serious injuries and were referred to Barwani district hospital
Police revealed that all four individuals were from Semlet village and had been involved in a medical emergency earlier that night. They had transported a critically ill relative to Pati for treatment, but when the patient's condition deteriorated, he was referred to Barwani district hospital.
After successfully delivering the patient to the district hospital, the group was returning to their village when the tragic accident occurred during the early morning hours.
Police Investigation and Procedures
Authorities have registered a formal case regarding the incident. Following standard procedures, autopsies were conducted on the deceased, after which their bodies were handed over to their grieving families for last rites.
The investigation continues as police work to determine the exact sequence of events that led to this heartbreaking accident, which has left the local community in mourning.
