The Begusarai district of Bihar was rocked by tragedy over the weekend as two separate road accidents claimed two lives and left four others critically injured within a span of 24 hours. The incidents, which occurred in different police station areas, have sparked public outrage and highlighted critical issues of road safety and law enforcement.
Boy Crushed by Speeding Tractor, Locals Block Road
The first tragic incident unfolded on Saturday morning in Barauni Flag village, falling under the Teghra police station jurisdiction. An 11-year-old boy named Ayub Aryan was on his way to a coaching class when he was run over by a speeding sand-laden tractor. The driver of the vehicle, reportedly aged between 15 and 17 years, fled the scene immediately after the accident.
The death of the young boy triggered immediate and intense anger among local residents and the victim's family. They staged a protest by blocking traffic on the Ghatkindi–Barauni Flag road. The core of their grievance was the alleged inaction by the local police and administration. Protesters accused authorities of consistently ignoring repeated complaints about underage drivers operating heavy, sand-laden tractors recklessly in the area, creating a perpetual hazard.
Teghra Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Krishna Kumar later arrived at the protest site. After negotiations and assurances, he managed to persuade the agitated crowd to lift the road blockade, bringing a temporary halt to the demonstration.
Head-On Bike Collision Claims Electrician's Life
In a separate and equally devastating accident a day earlier, a 28-year-old electrician lost his life. The collision occurred on Friday on the Bakhri–Garhpura road near Ghagra village, under the Bakhri police station area.
The victim, identified as Anil Kumar from Kakrauli village, was returning home after work. His journey ended tragically in a head-on collision between two motorcycles. According to his uncle, Chandan Kumar, Anil succumbed to his injuries from the crash.
Bakhri Station House Officer (SHO) Shailendra Kumar provided details of the other involved parties. The second bike was driven by a man named Bumbum Tanti, who was traveling with his wife, Lalo Tanti, and their two children. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving all four members of the Tanti family with serious injuries.
All the injured were initially rushed to the local Primary Health Centre (PHC). Given their critical condition, Bumbum Tanti and one of the children were later referred to the Begusarai Sadar hospital for advanced medical treatment. The condition of the other injured victims remains serious.
A Pattern of Tragedy and Public Anger
These back-to-back accidents have cast a grim shadow over Begusarai. While one incident points to the menace of underage and irresponsible driving of heavy vehicles, often overlooked by authorities, the other underscores the ever-present dangers on district roads. The protest following the boy's death is a direct manifestation of public frustration with perceived systemic failures in ensuring basic traffic law enforcement and safety.
The incidents raise urgent questions about the effectiveness of police patrolling, the crackdown on underage driving, especially of commercial vehicles, and the overall state of road safety awareness in the region. The community is now left mourning two lives cut short and hoping for concrete administrative action to prevent such heartbreaking losses in the future.
