Belagavi Land Fraud Case: Imposters Transfer Ancestral Property in Major Scam

In a shocking case of alleged land fraud that has recently come to light, the Udyambag police in Belagavi are investigating the illegal transfer of two acres of ancestral property belonging to a family in Belagavi taluk. The property was reportedly transferred to an outsider after eight individuals allegedly impersonated the original owners at the sub-registrar office.

Whistleblower Reveals Fraud After FIR Registration

The case, though registered in an FIR in November 2025, gained public attention recently thanks to the efforts of a whistleblower and former Belagavi corporator, Latifkhan Pathan. The complaint was officially filed by Babu Gangaram Yallurkar, who is one of the eight original owners of the land located in Survey No 22/3 at Waghawade village, Belagavi taluk.

According to the detailed complaint, the disputed registration occurred on March 18, 2023, at the Belagavi South sub-registrar's office. At that time, Padmanabha Gudi was serving as the sub-registrar. The original owners only discovered in November 2025 that their entire property had been transferred to Mallikarjun Jayaram Rashinge of Yadagud village in Hukkeri taluk.

Forged Documents and Official Involvement Alleged

When the family approached the sub-registrar's office seeking clarification, they allegedly found that eight people had executed the registration by posing as the legitimate owners. Police sources have revealed a disturbing detail: of the eight original owners, three have passed away, while the others are still alive, making the impersonation even more audacious.

Latifkhan Pathan has made serious allegations in this case. He claims that the accused forged multiple documents, including Aadhaar cards, fabricated land records, and created a sale deed with forged signatures. Pathan further alleges that the fraudulent transfer was facilitated with the involvement of officials at the sub-registrar's office. He has labeled this as a serious case of malpractice and corruption, warning that such frauds threaten the fundamental security of property ownership in the region.

Police Investigation Underway

Udyambag police inspector DK Patil has confirmed that an investigation is currently underway. The police have issued notices to the concerned departments, seeking detailed explanations regarding the alleged fraud. Inspector Patil stated, "We are also examining the allegation of fake Aadhaar cards," and added that further legal action would follow after thorough document verification.

This case highlights significant vulnerabilities in property registration processes and raises important questions about oversight in land transactions. The community in Belagavi is closely watching as authorities work to unravel this complex web of alleged deception and corruption.
